CAD Software

Computer aided design (CAD) software is the backbone of any and all industries that rely on varying designs. Architectural CAD software comes in handy with respect to storm drain mapping, road and highway construction, infrastructure design and lf course general building design. The importance of CAD software in land surveying is illustrated by the fact that with the help of CAD design software a team of surveyors will be able to quickly and accurately map developed and undeveloped pieces of real estate, survey the sites for future public works such as schools and hospitals, and also plan for the environmental impact of wastewater systems during construction projects. 3D CAD software makes ship construction and automotive design possible, while Mac CAD software is known throughout the textile industry as the platform for fashion design abilities.

CAD software was an outcropping of the aircraft as well as automotive design centers with Douglas Aircraft and North American Aircraft leading the pack. These early kinds of computer aided design software were closely guarded industry secrets and much guessing went on behind closed doors about the CAD software the competition was using and working on. Yet it was the automotive industry and the sport of car racing that fueled the competitive spirit between the car makers that inspired Renault, GM, and Ford to go head to head in an effort to not only out-design one another with respect to the daily driver that would be sold to an adoring public, but also to outrace one another on the great tracks of the time.

While today’s CAD software - cheap – is available to all, in its heyday it was the closely guarded secret of the likes of McDonnell Douglas and IBM. Yet the mushrooming availability of the personal computer in even the most remote regions has given rise to “CAD free,” CAD software that is available to those who might be hobbyists and who in the past would not have thought of using CAD software for their designs. Today there is woodworking CAD software, shareware CAD software for the maker of pottery, Turbo CAD software, CAD cam software, and a host of other CAD software packages specifically geared toward niche users. CAD software reviews consistently laud the latest innovations of computer aided design software for woodworking, sheet metal artistry, and of course computer animation. It is humbling to consider that if not for the early design wars of the industry greats of the 1950s and 1960s much of what is available today even as shareware would most likely not exist.
